5 Simple Ways to Boost Your Immune System

 Safetynet

There are everyday lifestyle habits you can focus on to help give your immune system what it needs to fight off an infection or illness. Here are 5 ways to ensure your immune system has everything it needs to function optimally to boost your immune system.

1. Maintain a Healthy Diet

As with most things in your body, a healthy diet is key to a strong immune system. This means making sure you eat plenty of vegetables, fruits, legumes, whole grains, lean protein and healthy fats. In addition to providing your immune system the energy it needs, a healthy diet can help ensure you’re getting sufficient amounts of the micronutrients that play a role in maintaining your immune system, including:

-Vitamin B6, found in chicken, salmon, tuna, bananas, green vegetables and potatoes (with the skin)

-Vitamin C, found in citrus fruit, including oranges and strawberries, as well as tomatoes, broccoli and spinach

-Vitamin E, found in almonds, sunflower and safflower oil, sunflower seeds, peanut butter and spina
The best way to support your immune system is to eat a well-balanced diet.

2. Keep Exercising

Regular exercise is one of the pillars of healthy living. It improves cardiovascular health, lowers blood pressure, helps control body weight, and protects against a variety of diseases. But does it help to boost your immune system naturally and keep it healthy? Just like a healthy diet, exercise can contribute to general good health and therefore to a healthy immune system.

3. Minimize Stress

It’s important to understand how stress affects your health, including the impact it has on your immune system. This stress response, in turn, suppresses your immune system, increasing your chance of infection or illness. Stress is different for everyone, and how we relieve it is, too. And, whether it’s deep breathing, mediation, prayer or exercise, you should also get familiar with the activities that help you reduce stress.

4. Get Drink Moderately

Alcohol consumption can weaken the immune system by destroying its protective barriers. By drinking less alcohol, you can help improve the structure of your immune system.

5. Don’t Smoke/ Quit Smoking

It’s not really news that many harmful substances are also released by cigarette smoke. Just think about all the carbon monoxide, nicotine, nitrogen oxides and more. All these toxins can have a negative impact on the growth as well as on the proper function of your immune system cells. If you’re a smoker, consider quitting to strengthen your immune system and improve your overall health.
